LASIK has provided excellent vision results for many millions of people. Although LASIK does not always provide perfect results, if you are a good candidate for LASIK there is an excellent chance you could achieve 20/20 or better vision after LASIK.
Published data with the WaveLight Excimer Laser for nearsighted patients shows 75% of patients are 20/15 and 24% are 20/20. 1% will be 20/25 to 20/24 and may need an enhancement. It is important to have realistic expectations of LASIK results, and understand you are not guaranteed 20/20 vision after LASIK. If you have a strong prescription, you may be a little less likely to get 20/20 results from LASIK. People with a lower prescription are a little more likely to achieve 20/20 vision after LASIK, even without wearing contact lenses or glasses.
If you do get a less than ideal result from LASIK, an enhancement procedure may be able to fine tune your vision and possibly bring it up to 20/20. To get a better idea of what results you can realistically expect from LASIK, you should schedule a complimentary consultation with our board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Stephen Wilmarth. He will examine your eyes and vision history, and help you decide if LASIK can achieve the result you expect.
If you live in the greater Sacramento area and are interested in LASIK, please contact Wilmarth Eye to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Stephen Wilmarth.
