What Is IntraLase?
LASIK requires the creation of a flap in the cornea to revise structures in the corneal bed for corrected vision. This flap can be created one of two ways: with a manual instrument called a microkeratome blade, or with a femtosecond laser that gently dissolves surface cornea tissue.
The Zeimer femtosecond laser is recognized as the foremost technology for bladeless LASIK. Due to its reliable safety record and the predictability of positive outcomes, Zeimer has led the way for the evolution of all-laser vision correction surgeries.
It’s important to distinguish the role of Zeimer laser in the LASIK process. The femtosecond laser simply makes the flap. Dr. Wilmarth will then use a different high-quality laser, called an excimer laser, to perform the correction stage of the surgery.
Benefits of Zeimer Laser
The Zeimer laser is a first-in-class laser that creates your LASIK flap with precision that can’t be duplicated with a mechanical device. Some of the advantages of vision surgery with Zeimer laser include:
-
Painless flap creation
-
Precision – Dr. Wilmarth can program the laser with the specific width, depth, and angle of your flap
-
Dimensions of the flap are customized to the unique characteristics of your eye
-
Faster recovery of eye health and best vision – integrity of the flap is better maintained with Zeimer laser than a bladed instrument
The entire process of flap creation only takes about 30 seconds to complete. The Zeimer equipment is designed to be quiet, and Dr. Wilmarth and our caring staff will keep you comfortable through every step of the LASIK procedure.
