Common symptoms associated with the development of cataracts includes:

  • Increasing nearsightedness (myopia) as the distance becomes blurry.

  • Diminished night vision, especially when driving

  • Light sensitivity (photophobia)

Testing for Cataracts

After reviewing your medical history and discussing your symptoms, Dr. Wilmarth will perform an examination and tests to determine if cataracts are present and the degree to which they interfere with your vision. Some of the most common methods of diagnosis include:

  • Visual acuity test

  • Checking your current prescription for glasses and contact lenses.

  • Biomicroscopic examination of the lens in your eye.

  • Dilation of the pupil and examination of the retina, macula and optic nerve.
