LASIK Recovery

You might be tired of wearing contact lenses or glasses to address your vision problems. If so,
you’ve almost certainly heard of LASIK, and you might be considering the procedure as a
permanent solution to your vision problems. An increasing number of patients are coming to
realize that LASIK is a commonly performed procedure with an excellent safety record. But even knowing this, you likely have questions about LASIK. One of the most popular is: how long will it take me to recover from the LASIK procedure?
People are busy, and most can’t afford to take several days off from work. Like any surgical procedure, you need to follow your doctor’s recovery plan. But the good news is that recovery from LASIK surgery is usually quick and relatively painless.

The Recovery Process

You will see the results of LASIK immediately after your procedure. You will be able to see the
world at near 20/20 vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses. Still, you can expect your vision to fluctuate a little in the days and weeks after the procedure. This is normal and does not indicate a problem.
Most patients are able to resume their normal activities a day or so after their LASIK procedure.
You can expect to miss between one and three days of work after undergoing LASIK.
After that, the recovery process is fairly simple. Every patient is different, and your timeline
might be a little different than others. Still, for most patients, full recovery takes a few weeks.
During that time, you might experience:
  • Dry eyes
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Poor night vision
  • Halos around the eyes
Most patients report little to no actual pain. Patients should avoid driving at night, contact sports and swimming immediately after their LASIK surgery. If you do experience substantial pain, or if your symptoms seem to worsen during the recovery process, contact your eye doctor immediately.
If you’re suffering from vision issues in Rocklin, Folsom, Sacramento or any of the surrounding areas and you want to know if LASIK is right for you, please give us a call at Wilmarth Eye Care at 916-507-1709.
