Sacramento LASIK

Are you tired of the hassles of wearing glasses or contact lenses every day? Sacramento eye surgeon Dr. Stephen Wilmarth has been helping patients achieve their optimal vision with LASIK for more than 20 years.

If you’re considering permanent vision correction, it’s important to consult an experienced LASIK surgeon. Please call Wilmarth Eye and Laser Center today at 916-507-1709 to schedule your initial appointment. Dr. Wilmarth serves patients in the Greater Sacramento area.

What Is LASIK?

LASIK, or laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis, is the most technologically advanced method of vision correction available to patients today. The procedure involves creating a thin flap in the cornea of the eye and precisely reshaping underlying corneal tissue with a surgical laser to correct visual errors.

Performed on an outpatient basis, LASIK takes roughly 15 minutes to complete. Once the procedure is over, Dr. Wilmarth will reposition the flap back in place so it can heal naturally.

LASIK surgery addresses refractive errors in the eye, where the cornea doesn’t effectively focus light on the retina. Common refractive errors LASIK can treat include:

  • Astigmatism
  • Nearsightedness (myopia)
  • Farsightedness (hyperopia)
  • Loss of near vision with age (presbyopia)

During your consultation, Dr. Wilmarth can discuss the different kinds of LASIK and how they can benefit you. These options include:

  • Custom LASIK
  • Blade or bladeless LASIK
  • Monovision LASIK

Benefits of LASIK

In addition to permanent vision correction, LASIK is very safe and enjoys one of the highest success rates of any surgical procedure. Studies place patient satisfaction as high as 98 percent. Other benefits include:

  • Vision correction results are almost immediate
  • Minimal downtime after the procedure
  • The procedure is virtually painless

Correcting your vision with LASIK can change not just how you see but make it easier to pursue hobbies, athletic activities, and career endeavors more freely without the inconvenience posed by glasses or contacts.

Your LASIK Procedure

It’s important to understand that most people, but not all, are candidates for LASIK. During your initial consultation, Dr. Wilmarth will conduct a full eye exam to make sure your health and vision are conducive to successful correction.

If Dr. Wilmarth determines that LASIK isn’t a suitable treatment for helping you reach your ideal vision, he might recommend an appropriate alternative better suited to the unique qualities of your eyes, such as:

  • PRK (photorefractive keratectomy)
  • Visian ICL
  • Refractive lens exchange

After your laser vision surgery, Dr. Wilmarth and his staff will provide you with detailed instructions to follow during your LASIK recovery. Though most patients return to regular activities the day after surgery, following certain steps can facilitate your recovery and help you toward the best post-operative results.

If you’re considering LASIK surgery and you’d like to learn more, please contact Wilmarth Eye and Laser Center or call 916-507-1709 today to schedule your initial consultation. Dr. Wilmarth is pleased to see patients in or around Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, and Folsom, California.
