Why Have LASIK This Holiday Season?

The holidays are fast approaching, and many people are thinking about their vacations and upcoming reunions with friends and family. LASIK can help you fully enjoy your holiday with the gift of good vision. Ditch your glasses and contacts and enjoy the freedom that LASIK can offer.

If you are interested in LASIK surgery before embarking on your vacation, contact Dr. Wilmarth at 916-507-1709 today to schedule your free consultation and see if you are a candidate. We serve patients in and around Sacramento, including Roseville, Rocklin, and Folsom.

Benefits of Having LASIK Over the Holidays

Many people get time off from work during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, making it a perfect chance to have LASIK surgery done without needing to take personal time. You can rest, relax, and recover at your leisure without worrying about work.

There are also a number of vacation-specific benefits to having great vision, including:

  • No need for custom goggles that fit over glasses if you go skiing

  • No need to worry about breaking or losing your glasses while on holiday away from your eye doctor

  • No need to pack contact solution and spare contacts (and then have to buy a new bottle when you forget to bring it...)

  • You won't need to pack reading glasses and then inevitably lose them

  • If vacationing at the beach, you can swim, snorkel, and surf without constantly worrying about your glasses

  • You'll look great in front of your friends and extended family who have only ever seen you with glasses

Plus, towards the end of the year, many people are left with money in their FSA that they need to use before the new year. LASIK is an eligible procedure to use your FSA money on, and many people opt to use their FSA savings to fully or partially cover the cost of LASIK.

Holiday Season Post-LASIK Recovery Guidelines

If you do choose to have LASIK over the holidays, there are a few things to keep in mind. While you can technically fly the day after having LASIK, we do not recommend it. You should take at least one day, preferably two, to recover at home before flying.

Flying dries out the eyes, so if you fly after having LASIK, make sure to take some lubricating eye drops and use them liberally. The dry air can cause irritation otherwise. It may also be a good idea to take a nap on the plane instead of trying to watch a movie or read, to allow your eyes to rest.

Dr. Wilmarth will give you detailed recovery instructions following your LASIK procedure that you should follow to ensure proper healing. If you have questions about how soon you can do certain activities, like skiing or swimming, please ask him so that he can give you a detailed answer based on your unique case.
